Apply before the appointment
Windsor now uses the ServiceOntario online marriage licence application. Follow the email instructions after submission and arrange an appointment. Licence issue hours are 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays.
The city suggests applying four to six weeks before the ceremony. Licences cannot be extended or refunded. A licence is not the ceremony itself.

Original documents for both people
Bring the completed application signed by both applicants and two valid original government-issued ID documents for each person, with at least one photo ID each. If just one applicant attends, they must bring the other person’s original ID too. Photos, digital copies and photocopies are not accepted.
Documents in another language require a certified translation. For a Canadian divorce, bring an original or court-certified certificate of divorce, decree nisi or decree absolute. The city does not accept a divorce order, judgement or photocopy. For divorce outside Canada, contact the office before applying.

Payment and access needs
The fee is $140, paid by debit or Visa or Mastercard. Applicants arrange their own language interpreter. Sign-language interpretation may be arranged by the office and is paid for by the city. Interpreters need valid photo ID.
Applicants aged 18 or older do not require parental consent. People aged 16 or 17 need written consent from both parents, and other restrictions may apply. Ask the office about that process before booking.
